You can tell if produce is conventionally grown, genetically modified, or organic - it's all in the numbers. This is an extremely helpful bit of information given the fact that the powers that be don't want American's to know what's GMO...apparently 70% of packed products have GMO but for fresh produce you can just
check the PLU sticker and avoid the 8's:
4 DIGIT NUMBERS (they all begin with 3 or 4) denote conventionally grown, non-GMO produce (that is, grown with chemical pesticides and fertilizers and not genetically modified)
5 DIGITS BEGINNING WITH AN 8 means the produce is evil genetically modified Frankenproduce!!!
5 DIGITS BEGINNING WITH A 9 means it is ORGANIC (yay)
In other works, avoid 8's at all costs! The 9's have it! From this really cool website called
EarthSky.
